Strange oil leak, see pic

Hi guys, please can someone tell me what this is and why oil is leaking out of it and down my engine casing. There is also something rotating inside it when the engine is revved. Hope you can clear this up for me. My bike is at 400 miles and is getting its first service next week. Regards

Yeah I'm pleased that ones sorted (so far). I considered the extended warranty but we get 2 years as standard in the UK which I think is plenty to get rid of the niggles

to teh OPs, i am sorry guys as it is sad to see an engine falling apart within a short amount of time.
If i were you guys, i got pissed of too a lot and try to claim my money back.
But, in real life, things are not this way. A manufacturer has the right to fix it only and any machine in this world can create problems. So yours guys are just unlucky situations.

But, if we cannot keep this thread within topic, i afraid best should be closing this thread.
Please ladies and gents! You can PM each other to discuss things out of the topic.
Thanks.

So I should be paying to have my warranteed bike pulled apart by another dealer? If I wanted these issues I would have bought a used bike. I just want a problem free new bike. I don't expect it to be problem free forever, but the first week would have been nice!
We are starting to beat a dead horse. We will have to agree to disagree on what is fair, and what to expect from a NEW vehicle.

I did not get a call from the Honda case manager Pat today like she said I would. So I called at about 4:30pm to catch her before she left at 5. She didn't seem to remember the details of my case very well, or that Smokey Point Cycle Barn had completed the repair, but in doing so, they broke 2 body panels on my "NEW" CB500X and are waiting for them to arrive. Pat, the case manager explained again that there was nothing in the warranty that would "allow" them to replace my bike. I explained that there in nothing forcing me to pick up that bike. She is ow going to her boss and I am supposed to hear tomorrow if they are willing to do something other than what the law requires. Aaron, the Service Manager at Smokey Point Cycle Barn did call me today to see what I had heard from Honda. I appreciate the communication. Now if they only knew how to work on my bike without breaking body panels.... I hope to have a final report for the forum tomorrow. I hope they give me good news to report back to you all. They really are fun bikes to ride. At least for the first 33 miles:)

How could anyone deal with a place that calls itself "Smokey Point Cycle Barn"?

Sounds like they haven't heard of the existence of a screw driver. No wonder they break panels off the bike.

Probably take a crow bar to the tank to get it off.

If they really believe in their repair service and want to keep you as a customer the simple solution is to grant you a 4 year extended warranty (5 years total) at no cost to you. If I were Honda I would do that in a heartbeat, and thank you for your patience and consideration.

Is it just me, or does that nice pretty chrome button on the left of the missing nut (in the pic in the fist post) look all banged up? Mine is perfectly smooth and mirror like.

"Everyone assumes that the new motorcycle they buy will be trouble-free. In fact, many riders only buy new bikes to eliminate some of the repair problems associated with used bikes. However, motorcycles do develop problems and some are serious enough that they have to be fixed using a motorcycle recall program."

This is a quote from a site covering motorcycle recalls. Check it out:

2013 Motorcycle Recalls

This page covers 2013 recalls and the year isn't even over yet. Interestingly BMW, Ducati, KTM, Triumph, Victory and more are on the list but no Japanese makers.

So i finally gave in

Honda customer service gave me a 1 year extension to my warranty. It was that or have to take legal action. I gave in and chose to accept it with the promise that there was no damage to my motor from the rocker pivot rod falling out. Hopefully, if there was any damage it ill show its ugly head within the next 2 years. Chances are i will sell the bike before that warranty expires, so good luck to the next guy. I really liked the bike before this happened. Let's hope I can learn to like it again. They adjusted the valves as part of the repair. Then said at 600 miles I should go it again. I think it is BS that in 565 miles that the valves could need to be adjusted again. I bought a 2013 Honda, not a 1993 Ducati right?lol Whatever Honda. Think my next CAR won't have an H in the grill. I can't afford to pull the valve train apart every 600 miles.(jk) Anyway, I hope you all have a better first month with your bikes than I have had. Ride safe out there! Thank you to those of you who shared your kind words and were mature enough to stay on subject and see my point of view.

Yeah, and what about all the people who completely disagree with you, and do NOT see your point-of-view?

So you didn't get a brand new bike after all.
I'm not surprised.

Since you hate Honda now, sell it and get another brand.
And when you have problems with that one, see if they will give you a brand new bike.

Since you hate Honda now, maybe you don't want to hang out on this forum with other people who like Honda motorcycles.
Conflict of interest, right?

Later.

None of this would have happened in the uk.
1.
The bike would have been recovered as part of the warranty, its broken therefore unsafe to ride.
2.
New bike wise for me it would have happened.
Distance selling regs plus vehicle being unfit for use.
3.
Actually I do like how you got another years warranty, probably a better outcome than a new bike.

Cheers

Are you saying the bike would have been scrapped over a 2 quid part ? Very unfortunate that this happened, but, If the owner had called his dealer when he first noticed the plug missing, I am sure the dealer would have sent a truck to collect the bike for repair. The owner should not have run that engine with the plug missing. All this bike needed was another plug screwed in , and sent down the road. And, on a side note , I still say the guy at the dealer who prepped the bike is most at fault here for not checking the plug. We do have consumer laws to protect us here also, but to demand a replacement bike because a plug fell out, HA. The way I see it this was a fine example of Honda reliability to not have more damage done to the engine by an irresponsible owner by running the bike after the missing plug was noticed !
