If you think I am from the "current generation" I will assume you are a lot older than me at 40. I don't consider this an age thing. It is a " merchantability" issue. If you build something and sell it, it should meet a reasonable expectation of usability and dependability. I also realize that we are all human and mistakes happen. It is not the mistake that is important, it is how it is handled. I also am from the auto industry with experience over 2 decades. I believe in the philosophy that was taught to me by my customer service oriented sales manager that started me in the car business. His quote was "Give them the vehicle they thought they bought." Simple philosophy that keeps customers, and in the end benefits the dealer as well with referral customers, repeat business, and service and parts sales. The idea of holding a customer's feet to the fire making them keep a vehicle they do not want or trust after a manufacturer mistake or defect is bad business and will cost way more than the profit of that one sale. It is just antiquated thinking by small minds with little or no education or foresight. I have worked with plenty of these short term thinkers, and they don't stay in one place for long. Wonder why? No return customers. We will see soon enough what Honda's philosophy is. Is it short term, or do they look for the future business? I like the new Accord and buy a new car every year. I can promise you that the way this situation is handled will make or break that decision. Also, the dealers's slow and lack of communication has prevented my friend who I referred to my local dealer to move ahead and buy the bike he planned to buy. He has asked me about me experience and all I have shared are the facts of my experience. FYI, I spoke with the rep from Honda that was assigned my case. She was very polite, honest about policy, and said I would have an answer tomorrow. I respect that and hope they have a amicable solution. If Honda is willing to stand behind the engine for at least 30k miles or 5 years, I am willing to accept that. If they will replace my new bike with another, I will accept that as well. If they wish to cancel the deal and start all over I will accept that. However, if I am told to just to take the bike back on their word that, "It doesn't look like there is any damage" I will do everything in my power to never see that bike again. Until tomorrow.................
