Just took the rear-end of the bike apart.
Decided to do some research before I started cutting the metal / plastics.
Turns out in OZ the license plate light and red rear reflector are mandatory.
Back to the drawing board for me to see if I can incorporate those two things in a tail tidy.

I used this for a plate light:
LED License Plate Rear Tag Lamp Motorcycle Street Fighter Sport Super Bright C | eBay

how about these for the reflector?
2 License Plate Bolts Mini Reflectors Motorcycle Auto Truck Bike Wingnut Red | eBay

or
Motorcycle Scooter Blue Line License Plate Frame Thin Reflective Police | eBay

if it must be red I can send you red reflective vinyl

I have some red reflective tape that fits under the tail light, which should be sufficient. Just have to find a solution for the plate light, mostly positioning though. But as I am visiting family over the weekend I don't have too much time to look into it. Really appreciate the suggestions though.

man this looks nice. its just to obvious and i know cops will jump on me first time they see it! going to go the no cut r&g its not as nice but its an improvement :(
Wait a while for R&G cut tail tidy, they will incorporate the reflector and license plate light for sure :)

rear fender eliminated

Step one: remove both seats, and rear panels. The lock has a clip and its pretty easy. The hardest part of the tear down was my license plate frame. The blinkers, brake light, and license light unclip under the rear seat. This is what you see when you get all the prettieness off.

here is under the rear fender, the two screws from the back that hold the plastic to the bracket.

here is my trimmed rear fender before I cut the bracket off

and a quick reassembly

by far the biggest time sink was the **** license plate frame... other than that I didnt feel like riding all over town for the correct wire terminals so I just cut the ends off the old blinkers and license light, then soldered the ends onto my new equipment.

Nice work and mini tutorial on this. I'm slowly building up the courage to do this to my tri-color.

This is definitely the way to go, unfortunately, I don't know how I would make a strong case that I didn't void the warranty if I ever had to bring it in for service.

Even though I'm 99.9 % sure that chopping the license plate support will not affect other parts of the bike, Honda may feel differently, and that's all I'm afraid of.

worry wart

I thought I would put up a tutorial LITE pictorial... I was asked for some pics, and Big3 has been busy making up some nice decals. I had the spare plastic parts waiting for his more indepth post but I got impatient... Big3 is definitely the trail blazer, I just followed his wheel tracks. Except for the stupid license plate frame (four small side screws to take the cover and actual plate off then 2 stupidly long and bent screws holding it to the bike) the hardest part was triming the plastic piece to make nice flat edges (I dont have a belt sander) and that didnt take long either. This is a very simple job.

Mind sharing where ya mounted the license plate bracket and pics of the undertail?
ok, Ill try to get some pics today. I just got a cheapy chineseish universal bracket for the license, mounted it underneath (obviously) just forward of the rear fill piece. I will admit I have not fitted the rear fill piece yet. Last few days have been real busy for me apartment hunting...
