I'm looking to get a 2017 CBR500r from someone and they say that it ran great but then they left it in their garage and didn't touch it for all of winter. He says it now does not start up, no engine no electronics. What could be the reason? I would like to buy it and fix it but I want it to be worth my time.

More than likely a flat battery. Can you put a charger on it for an hour. You could put jump leads on it to see if it will crank. I personally am not a fan of jump starts on dead battery's but that's just me, I prefer a charger.

As stated, I would expect the battery has died. As suggested put a charger on it (Don't charge it at more than 1 or 2 amps) and leave it for an hour or so and then try starting the bike. If it does start then you know the bike and engine are good, but you will have to buy a new battery. It really kills a battery to let it go flat and sit that way, the charger test is a simple way to get it to work, but the battery will have been permenantly damaged and will fail soon, so just replace it and have a trouble free bike..

Good advice.

Most likely it's the battery.
If not, look for mouse chewed wires in the wiring harness, especially if you find a mouse nest under the seat.
