Hello from sunny Tucson, Arizona. New here, but I've owned many Hondas. Getting rid of one of my inferior (everything is inferior to Honda) rides and hoping to get delivery of a new 2022 CBR500R next week.

I'm in the habit of replacing my exhausts, but not for the usual reasons.

First, I try to reduce the weight by getting rid of heavy catalytic converters, as well as the heat they generate.

My problem, is every aftermarket exhaust I buy is a waste of money (for me) because I can't find a quiet one. I actually have my Ninja 650 exhaust up for sale right now for that very reason.

Now, I know I won't find anything as quiet as a stock exhaust, but something tame and somewhat subdued would be nice. ****, I'm 63 and my wild days are long gone.

I've been looking for a web site that rates exhaust by decibals without luck.

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Brian: I am no fan of loud bikes, either, but an increase in decibel output would seem to be eternally co-existent.with any aftermarket mufflers/pipes, etc as young squids like to announce their presence. I have my '17 CB-500F down to about 400# with full tank. Several years ago I got an Akrapovic muffler and mid-pipe for a remarkably low price ($72 directly from the maker), new, on the Internet. I weighed the OEM muffler at 11# and the Akrapovic and mid-pipe at 4#. So, a savings of 7#. An Anti-Gravity Lithium battery took off another 4#. I removed the passenger footrests and made a simple strap steel muffler hanger, for another few #. Total weight loss around 14# and the Honda weighs 414# topped off, so there's my 400# figure. I keep the decibel killer in the Akrapovic muffler and it is very moderate in sound. No running problems noted after the muffler conversion and I never get less than 70 miles per US gallon, often closer to 80 mpg. My F model revs 13% lower than a standard CB500 due to my fitting a 17T counter-shaft sprocket. Much nicer overall.

At one time, IXIL had lightweight replacement head pipes. They had them a few years ago, but a search just now didn't find any.

It's hard to pare weight from the CB-500s as the basic bike is heavier than it should be and does not lend itself to cost-effective weight reduction.

I was 63 23 years ago. I had to sell my big Moto Guzzi 1100 touring bikes 7 years ago as I no longer could manage the weight. I'm 135#, so not a lot of heft to throw around! That's why I put a good bit of money into my CB-500F, via Russell seat and Wilbers' shock absorber, lowering 1.5", etc. It's a very sturdy platform and I feel totally at peace on it, which is something I cannot always say about my '04 Guzzi 750 or my '21 Royal Enfield "Interceptor 650, which are 75# and 50# heavier, respectively. Thanks, Ralph. Funny, I'm selling the 2022 Interceptor I have.

You would think someone, somewhere tested and rated motorcycle exhausts by DB. Seems everything from toasters to tugboats are tested on the internet.

If I can get my bike as light as yours, I'd be thrilled. I made a note to check in the Akrapovic.

The web site does not list the 2022 CBR500R. I wrote them to see what they have available.

I scoured the web looking for decibel comparisons between mufflers and came up empty. You would think someone out there was using a decibel meter to test mufflers. The sound I can hear from my computer speakers is no way to judge volume. Kind of sucks that way.,

You are welcome! I intend on leaving the largest carbon footprint humanly possible. I fart excessively as well.
Funny how those rich environmentalists always travel in small, private jets.

By the way, I'm removing the cat because its heavy and produces a **** ton of heat.

Hey I agree about the greenies like - ummm - Al Gore with his private jet, but that is a bit different then removing a cat that stops the NOX pollution.
You know the stuff that's REALLY bad.

The pollution my little motorcycle creates is such a tiny fraction of the big picture , I feel no guilt.

I feel a slight twinge of sadness when I club baby seals, though.

Well, to be honest, I agree. You can't really judge sound levels from computer speakers.
I found a company called PipeWerx in England that seems to have a good product.
They are willing to make me a 450MM muffler with maximum sound deadening.

My only question, before I order, is, will the 450mm can look odd? Their standard product is 380mm.

I don't have the bike yet, so I'm hoping someone will chime in and help me out by measuring the length of the stock muffler for reference.

The recording is fine, however the tone of your messages is not conducive to productive discussion.

I didn't know this motorcycle had a clutch pedal. What am I missing?
I understand these might be attempts of being sarcastic, but they come across rather shallow.

If you want a quiet silencer then longer or fatter is better. Carbon is also quieter. If you look on the web you can mostly find a picture of your preferred can fitted to a bike. Pipe werx is good, as is Delkevic, Black widow, and MTC exhausts. All UK based though.

I haven't yet found a picture of a 450mm can on the CB500 yet. That is why I'm hoping someone will take a tape measure to the factory muffler and report back.
Thanks.
