Over 9000 miles on my '17 F model, bought new 4/19. Added 17T countershaft sprocket for a 13% reduction in revs. I cruise at 4000-4500 rpm. Mid-50s mph.

Consistently over 70 miles per US gallon. Last week's fill up: 228 miles (corrected for sprocket upgrade) and 3.1 gallons of fuel. 73mpg.
OIl consumption; nil.

It's going to be tough to ride legally on a CBR500, we are buying this bike for more reasons than just to get too and from where we have to go haha. Otherwise we would be getting CBR250's, but there's not much fun in one of those after a certain point.

Would you say your calculations are more accurate than whats shown on the bike?
How do you people ride your bikes? In Australia, our Maximum speed limit is 110kph which I try to stay close to, occasionally touching 130-140kph when passing a truck or whatever, or I travel at 50-80kph on unsealed roads, depending on conditions, I have been checking my fuel consumption through the last 2,500kms and it varies from 2,92 to 3.15 liters per 100km which equates to 75-80 US mpg. I have been averaging that now for seven years and 187,000 km or 116,000 miles. What am I doing wrong?

I don't know where you guys ride, but I keep away from highways, preferring hilly winding roads, both blacktop and gravel.I have kept accurate records since Nov 26th, 2021 and in that time I traveled 7,671 km, and used 224 liters of fuel.( either 91 or 94E10). That equates to 34.25 km per liter, or 82.9 miles per US gallon. I think that I could do better than 45/50 mpg. if I didn't venture above 4th gear. My 2013 CB500f has now done 192,000,kms or 119,300 miles.

Ryder, I guess u r from US and u r mixing the measuring units.

1MPG(miles per gallon) = 0.425144 KPL (kilometers per liter)

To make the conversion easier for you:

1KPL = 2.352145 MPG

so after some simple multiplication
19KPL= aprox. 44.7MPG
23KPL = aprox. 54.1MPG

Hope this will clear out the confusion... And personally think that this are not bad numbers.
What! you think 19km per 100L is good? that is 12 miles per 22 Imperial Gallons i.e. half of one mpg!

Even if you meant 19Km per 1L that's still rubbish for a puny little commuter. if it doesn't get as much as the NC700 the bike will be a non starter.

At least MCN state that Honda claim 80mpg (Imperial not US) so if that is true it will be OK.
Economy was discussed on this sight in Nov 2021, and I was inspired to keep some records. Here is what I found. From Nov 26th '21 to March 20th '22, I travelled 10,272 km. My instruments told me that I had used 359.6 liters. I actually refuelled with 300.89 liters, confirming what has been said about instruments reading high. This gave me fuel consumption of 2.93 liters per 100 km, or 80.28 miles per US gallon, or 96.61 miles per Imp. gallon. I travel mainly on country roads, at speeds up to 80 kph on gravel, and up to 120 kph on bitumen. I do not ride aggressively I use either 91 octane or 94E10. (Ethanol <10%).
