Yep, I dropped the bike (got off without putting kickstand down). Luckily no faring / paint damage. Just as most others see, engine cover and bar ends.

But the bigger problem is the shift lever. It's bent in towards the bike, so it doesn't return to the middle position naturally. I have to push it up to upshift, then down to return to resting. I managed to bend it back with a big 'ol wrench, part looks to be steel so no worries about it shattering. Should I still replace the shifter lever? The linkage looks to be undamaged, but HondaPartsHouse has the whole assembly for like $40 including bolts. You guys think it's fine? Or better safe than sorry?

I wouldn't begin to make that call. But, here's a schematic for a 2018 CB500F' shift pedal, with part numbers, and prices. But mostly, a good view of the individual parts and linkage. If it's not going back to it's original and intended position, it's binding.. either externally, or internally.

Let me just say that forgetting to put the stand down doesn't make you a squid. That makes you human. Sometimes stuff happens to the best of us.

You'll know if you reach squid status if you ride wearing flip-flops, shorts and a tank-top and brag about non-existent riding skills to anyone within earshot.

I wouldn't worry about the bent shift lever, as stated they are steel and bend quite easily and can be straightened multiple times without breaking, Just make sure you bent it back enough that it doesn't catch on anything. You are not the first or the last to forget about the side stand!! Enjoy the ride and be grateful it didn't really damage the bike!!

I did something similar to my cbr500r. I have a bad knee and leaned over thinking the kickstand was down. I bent my shifter out like you and I haven't had a problem.
