Sorry the post editor deleted all the tabbed spacing and tightened things up. I'm not going back to re-do that.

If anyone has direct experience with the genuine parts, feel free to share your views on their quality or functionality. For example, some questions I have that some of you might be able to answer are:

Is the genuine Honda pin spanner for shock adjustment worth buying? I ordered one for our CBR250R (somewhere, I did manage to find they were the same part number, but now I can't find it without more searching than I feel like doing atm), and my Honda dealer's parts kid apparently couldn't find the part number (it's not on most available lists), so when I went to pick up the spanner I ordered, it was an aftermarket spanner. I managed to adjust the 250's shock with it, but it won't work with the 500's, so I'm considering getting the genuine Honda spanner.

Does the handle for the eye wrenches also fit the end of that pin spanner? It doesn't look that way, but I'm betting an extension would help a lot.

I've been wondering this, and I have to ask .. why the **** is a sponge part of the OEM tool kit?! I'm struggling to see a use for that at all, much less over some of the other things that non-US bikes get.

Yeah, us in the US (don't know about rest of NA) don't get anything but those first four things on the list.
Stock tools for bikes are sometimes sucky, but sometimes they can be awesome. I guess they don't usually include them here because most folks already have all that anyway so won't complain.
Any adventure bike should come with everything, but I don't think even that is normal here.

The Canadian bikes came with more tools than the US kit. I'll take a picture later.

I got the same thing in my tool bag as you did. I was wondering what the white piece of plastic was supposed to do. I still don't know what the sponge is for though.

Thanks, DSHDSH.
How well does that spanner fit into the shock adjuster? Real nice, or just sorta?
I assume that extension fits on the end of it just fine?
Thanks in advance.

Shock spanner works well but you need the extension. I find the 500R easier to adjust than the 250R

Thanks, carbonado.

Btw, all, it looks like the extension listed is an ancient part number. Not sure why they have that.
I think the current part is
Handle (12mm) 99006-12000

I just wish they'd include that spanner and extension.
I have already used the included Allen to look under the seat. I like the length of the short end.

Carbonado is correct, the shock spanner works well, but the extension is a must otherwise it is not possible to get the leverage to move the presets.
