get the 2019 cbr650r
I took your advice and did just that (thought I kept my CBR500R also).

Friend of mine bought the 2019 Ninja 650.

CBR500R < Ninja 650 < CBR650R

Which makes sense based on the pricing. The new Ninja 650 actually rides really well, better than the 500 and much, much more power. I even like the dash on the Ninja better than either CBR. But the CBR650R is just an awesome bike.

I will say this, even though the Ninja seems to be very well built, my friend has had it just under a year, and it's completely died while riding twice in the last month. Not a stall. We are cruising along 40 - 50 mph, and it just dies. Stops the bike. Turns the key off, then on. And it fired up both times. I'd be really upset if I were him. Going to the dealer tomorrow.

And as neat as some other bikes look...that's why I'm staying with team Red!!!

Nice to hear. IMHO, There's really no comparisons of costs for operating, maintenance, replacement parts and most any other category. When looking at Honda products, it's really hard to find fault.. unless you just prefer another color than Red.
