CB500X engine failure !

That's my job for tomorrow then - checking that out on my engine!

On my 600 mile service sheet it states 'carried out recall checks' - I wonder if that is one of them?

I see emotional overreaction going on here.
Honda has to take care of it, and they will. They don't owe you a new bike.
You have a new bike. You have a new bike that has a problem. They need to take care of that problem.

They need to pull the rocker cover, and take a look. If all the parts are there, and nothing fell down into the crankcase of the engine, then they can replace any damaged parts, put it back together, and you'll be good to go.
It will be as good as new. You don't need another new bike. That is ridiculous.
Don't panic. Just let them fix it. It will be fine.
Not sure I would feel the same SandMantis. It seems only cars and motorbikes work like that warranty wise. Imagine if you'd just bought a new shirt and first time wearing it the sleeve fell off, you'd expect it to be replaced not 'we'll get that stitched back on for you Sir!'

I know you can't expect a replacement car just because the cigarette lighter doesn't work but I think a major engine problem only a few miles down the road is a different story.

It's not the way it works with cars and bikes but perhaps it should do.

Bloody **** SandMantis, you'll be telling us the Earth is round next!

I'm not American but I can guess that suggesting NASA didn't make it to the Moon would be almost as ludicrous as suggesting their own government attacked the World Trade Centre.

There's probably more computing power in our CB's than there was in the Apollo rockets but that doesn't meant it didn't happen!

Yeah, and what about all the people who completely disagree with you, and do NOT see your point-of-view?

So you didn't get a brand new bike after all.
I'm not surprised.

Since you hate Honda now, sell it and get another brand.
And when you have problems with that one, see if they will give you a brand new bike.

Since you hate Honda now, maybe you don't want to hang out on this forum with other people who like Honda motorcycles.
Conflict of interest, right?

Later.
SandMantis, have you actually looked up the definition of moderator or moderate?! Just wondering!

Glad the OP got it sorted in the end, seems a fairly good outcome. Don't worry about the valve checks, they are basically saying that they have been reset and after 600 miles they need checking again. Once that's been done then they should be fine till the 16000 mile point.

Please don't be totally put off Honda by this, it could have happened to any manufacturers bike. And I think most would have dealt with it in a similar way. I'm not saying that its right but that's just the way it is I'm afraid.

Hopefully now you will start to enjoy your bike and grow to like it again, keep us informed on how it goes!

John
