What were YOUR first impressions and experiences so far with the 500R? I'm probably going to be trading my 250 for the 500 when it comes in, because when I bought my new 250, I was looking for something between a 250 and a supersport, but didnt find anything appealing (dont like ninja 500s and theyre discontinued here anyway) so I just got a new 250 to thrash around commuting and stuff. Of course, 2 weeks after I bought that bike, Honda announced the 500 for the states.

So I'm trying to get a feel for what I can expect when I take the bike out for the test ride in May when my dealer should be getting it. I have sat on the CB500F and the seating position is very comfortable to me, so I expect it to be good on the 500R as well. There have been alot of good review threads on here but I'd like the perspective specifically from people who went to the 500 from the 250, and I know there are at least a handful of people on this forum that I know from the 250 forum.

What do you like more about the 500? What do you like more about the 250? If you, like me, had been a 250 rider only before the upgrade, what surprised you the most? Any other general feedback is welcome too :)

The power is just right - the CBR250R had too little and my V65MAGNA had too much!

Steadier in the fast corners perhaps because of the better tires.

Easier to maintain a steady speed with much less shifting needed.

Just as easy to ride as the 250 - all the controls just right (except for the relocated turn signals).

Economical on gas - close to the 250.

Much improved front brake.

No vibration in the bars or foot pegs and a great sounding engine.

Love the Honda race colors.

Sounds good. I was a little worried about the front brake being weak considering its only a single disc for a 500, but I'm glad to hear its good.

The absence of vibration is good too- I would have been highly disappointed if it wasnt much improved over the 250. Thats one of my minor gripes with the 250, is that I can look down in neutral sitting still and see my grips and mirrors twitching a bit. It definitely gets a little buzzy above 50mph.

I just looked at that picture for about 5 minutes straight at work. The tri-color is truly bike porn. Theres nothing I dont like about the way the 500 looks

Ditto as above. Light and maneuverable to handle as the 250 was. Very comfortable seating position with a seat that has respectable padding. Love the fat tires which stick nicely to the road that inspires confidence. Definately takes the wind better than the 250 (mind you, the 250 was good in windy conditions). Don't have to shift as much....in large intersections I was shifting into 3rd with my 250 by the time I rode completely through. Definately the 500 has alot of snap and with a very smooth ride. Although the 500 is approx 80lbs heavier the bike is well balanced so the weight is not hugely noticeable. I like the quiet exhaust thus do not miss the dirtbike sound of the 250. The overall look of the 500 is awesome. I chose the HRC/white version and I know I will not get tired of this color scheme. I have the rear cowl on order to complete a sleak look. I will most likely remove the passenger pegs as I don't ride two-up. All in all I am very happy with the 250 big bro!

What I miss from the 250 is the shorter wheelbase. The 500, stem to stern is longer so I miss feeling the front wheel under me. Just have to get used to it.
