Hello,

Before taking my wheels into the shop for new tires, I removed the brake rotors (and ABS pulser rings) from the wheels as a precaution. Afterward, I noticed that the service manual says to use new bolts after removal, and had some questions.

1. Is it absolutely necessary to get new bolts, or can the old ones safely be reused?

2. If they can be reused, what kind of thread locker (if any) should be used? The bolts originally had red material on the threads. Does this red material have to be fully removed before applying new thread locker, if any?

I replaced the rotors on both wheels and did not use threadlocker. No problems. There is a torque setting you should follow.

Thanks for the reply. Agreed, I'm pretty diligent about using my torque wrench whenever possible.

BTW the torque spec for the rotor bolts is 31 lb-ft, both front and rear (reference for anyone who wanders in here looking for it in the future).
