I think i'm going to have to sell the bike. Does anyone else find the 'X' intolerably noisy behind its screen? I have a very quiet helmet (Shoei GT Air), but at any speed above about 70km/h i just can't bear the noise.

All though its good fun standing on the pegs going down the freeway, its not really a practical solution. But it is quiet, so the issue is the bike its self.

Im not sure a taller screen would help. I think as i'm fairly short (5'9) and i sit quite far forward on the bike that the problem is that my head is in the low pressure buffet behind the screen. i've considered actually chopping down the stock small screen.

Has anybody else had similar issue and either fixed it with a taller screen (or shorter) screen??
cheers, Jim.
Sell the bike, you`ll never be happy

It has been my experience in 50 years of riding that generally speaking (not always true, but mostly) the bigger your windscreen the more buffeting you will get. In the past couple decades I have limited myself to nothing more than a fly screen and have been happy with the results. There are a few factory windscreens that work pretty good (BMW in particular) but they have been flow tested in a wind tunnel and designed to reduce buffeting. With aftermarket screens and even most OEM screens, there has been little if any attention paid to aerodynamics. If they work it is by luck.

I have a 2017 500X and the stock windshield has very bad buffeting. I was leaning toward the California Scientific but a buddy gave me his cheap windshield extender. Wow. Night and day difference. The overall hight is .5 inch shorter than the CS windshield. Works great

try this. I came across this on the internet (Pinterest?) and thought of future solutions to the buffeting which will arise with any wind screen except a fly screen. I am waiting for delivery of 500x and anticipate buffeting.I wear good earplugs, don’t go over 70 mph, and use a quiet helmet. The best you can do except remove all wind screen related hardware and wear a good leather jacket. Clear, clean air.

I must say that I am with bodessia on this one.
Wind noise above 70 km/h? Have to sell it, it's too much, I just can't bear it, all that noise above 70 km/h, my poor ears.
Yes, sell it already, to someone who is used to bikes and the fact that riding is not the same as sitting in a car.
It's one thing to ask for some advice how to deal with excessive wind noise or which screen does what, and another to whine about it. Maybe try a CBR250 or a bike that doesn't go faster than 70 km/h.
There are some real riders on this site who have ordered the X and are waiting to pick their bikes up; they don't need anybody raising non-issues.
Sorry to be a bit hard on you but personally I've never minded if someone set me straight.
Maybe something this would be best for you:
Good response. I AM waiting, most excitedly. I expect there may be some things needing personalization and this is part of taking a new bike. Handlebar, Levers, etc.

The CB500X OEM screen does indeed cause noise and buffeting. I found fitting an MRA Vario Type C spoiler reduced both dramatically, to the extent I can now ride visor up without earplugs at 70+ mph. Visit MRA Vario-Touring Windshield Spoiler Type C (VSA-C) in the UK. At £70, there are cheaper spoilers but the MRA is superbly engineered, rock steady, easily adjustable and does not require drilling.

My 2021 had buffeting issues. After much experimentation I have the shield in the lowest position with one inch rubber spacers on the bottom using longer screws. Works good to eliminate the buffeting.

One thing I wonder about in this forum is the possible difference of the various complaints are based on the year of bike? Does the older CB500X's have a buffeting problem that they mostly eliminated or reduced in newer models? I was in on a thread where the topic of discussion was about how the display was difficult to see. Then someone who was totally happy with their display posted a picture of their older bike's display. It was not even remotely similar to the display on my 2021 bike, which under certain circumstances I find difficult, if not impossible, to read. I wonder if it is the same with windscreens based on the varied responses. We sometimes appear to be comparing apples and oranges. By the way, I don't notice any buffeting from the wind screen on my bike which has been mounted at the lowest position since new.

I had the same maddening effect on my 2022X. I took the stock screen and adjusted it to the "High" position and bought a cheap deflector from Amazon for around $50 (Not the stupid expensive ones $100+ from some popular suppliers), and voila! -finally -the wind buffeting is 90% gone!

Wow guys ,
Great write-up/ discussion. I have been looking to purchase a CB500X , just like the looks , Honda , and seems the power plant would be sufficient for my riding. At 5'8" I am guessing a lowering link may be in order , and judging from these posts a Cal something windscreen. I had taken a V Strom for a short ride but didn't like the high dollar Corbin seat , very hard and cut into my thighs , of course as previously mentioned it or rather l would require a lowering link to get a bit of foot purchase in the ground. Any and all suggestions will be helpful.
Looking forward to replies.
Safe riding !

This discussion has been going on since 2006. These guys are for the most part not new riders who don't know what to expect. It's a problem that is endemic to this style bike. You may find some useful ideas in here: The buffeting and windscreen thread for '04-'11 DL650 and '04-'12 DL1000 - Stromtrooper Forum : Suzuki V-Strom Motorcycle Forums

This is a more recent discussion of the "new" 650, which was supposedly redesigned to solve the problem. Guess not: Windscreen and Buffeting Thread for the 2012+ DL650... The only one!!! - Stromtrooper Forum : Suzuki V-Strom Motorcycle Forums
Have owned many bikes, the worse for screen problems re noise and buffetting were V Strom 650 and 1000. Try a Givi screen, height adj, and forward positions 1,2,and 3.
