I really like the looks of the inverse graphic dash on 19 models. Looked into retrofitting the new dash to my '16 bike, bit it would not be realisticly possible due to various reasons.
Then I thought I can replicate the looks with an inverse graphic display at least. So I did my magic.
Can't understand how you got this polarization or whatever process was needed on the LCD, but the result is cool I must admit @Oyabun. I wish we could have this easily installed for all 13-18 models, does it get the OEM LCD darker or clearer in comparisson of you modified LCD? I adjust my LCD for maximum contrast and many times under direct sunlight I feel I'd like to have a more readible LCD.
Unfortunately it is not a straightforward install. Not really difficult, but tedious and certainly needs some dexterity. The speedo unit has to be removed from the bike, completely disassembled, existing anti glare and polariser film removed and the new installed before full assembly.
I can make a step by step installation guide and link to the polariser film to buy, but there is a chance to screw up a fairly expensive part of the bike.
I run mine for a few months now, and find it better readable even in strong daylight after the change. Not to mention the coolness factor of it. ?
@Oyabun dammit, I misread and thought the polarising was the other way around and hunted for 0deg film not 90deg.
I take it it's not something that can just be rotated prior to application to achieve the same result?
A link to the one needed would be good.
Still waiting on the 0deg film to arrive, I had the bike apart the other day sorting a lose wire for my gear selector display and opened up the daah to get a jist of what you were talking about.
Am I correct in thinking once apart, it's that top layer of the LCD glass that is to be removed/replaced?
You mention about replacing the polarizer film, but what about the top anti-glare layer?
@tothezenith from a large enough sheet of polarizing film you can cut any orientation piece. Just make sure you are testing orientation by rotating the sheet before cutting.
I suggest to use a self adhesive matte polarizing film so you'll have the two in one piece.
Good to know, thanks ?
Looks like my order is gloss, will see what things are like when it arrives. I got a big enough sheet I could even test some of that clear matte rattle can I have in the shed to make up the difference, lol
Did this mod now too, thanks for the tips @Oyabun
For anyone else contemplating this as an option, here's a quick pic guide to help: https://imgur.com/gallery/kUHVlEj
