Been reading the forum to get ideas and information for the past 2 years. Decided to contribute... I have a 2014 CB500F and my lady has a 2014 CBR500R that were purchased new . She has been a long time rider and had a CBR250R. I am a new rider and bought mine as a Christmas gift so couldn't ride it until the spring. She upgraded the next week due to displacement envy.... Mine was a pretty funny scenario; I live in Ontario, Canada and had to get my M1 license to get insurance for it while it was being stored. M1 is only good for 3 months so had to take it again because the first one expired before I could get my M2!
Anyways... due to how much time passed before I could ride, I had a lot of time to research. Ended up installing a bunch of upgrades before I rode it for the first time. T-Rex frame sliders and rear spools. Givi windscreen. SW-Motech handguards. Oxford heated grips. Two-Brothers Carbon Fiber slip on. Power Commander Tuner. USB Port to charge my helmet cam. Denali D2 LED driving lights. TechSpec tank protector. There may be more but I can't remember at the moment...
For the record, even with the upgrades an unmodified CBR500R is faster by about 20km/h. The F just pushes too much air, R has much better areodynamics.
Got a little bored this winter and decided to stud my tires. I had already bought a new set of Road Pilot 4's to replace my worn D222's (8,000km on them). 1" x 1/4" self drilling screws, 1" fender washers inside and out, 1/4" x 20 nut cross threaded on top. Used some RTV on the shank of each screw and loctite on the nuts. Mounted without tubes and they have been holding air without any loss for several weeks. They both balanced with less than 1.5 oz of weight. Took about 5 hours to stud the tires, 150 in rear, 100 in front. Works like a charm on ice and hardpack, terrible on bare ground. I also got the crash bars from Honda Canada that they used in their 2014 Gymkhana event to release the 2014 CB500F. In case you are wondering, these are not for retail/resale, they were made for this event. A sales person from my local dealer had them to use but ended up buying a different model and I got them from him.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading!
