most standard wiring do have room to move; doubling the draw could be a bit much though. Generally don't try to exceed the draw by 1.5x
If you're after brighter light though, halogens aren't the best performers. I ran HID 35W in the lowbeam for a while, certainly a brighter and longer throw than stock. HIDs are not ideal for highs though, their more for a constant on than on-off-on scenario; so I still (temperature matched) halogen in the highbeam.
The other month I upgraded to some OPT7 35W LED bulbs, I highly recommend these! I reckon the diodes are just in a better position than the HID to suit the reflector if our bikes, as the throw is broader though still matches luminosity of the HID in the usable distance range. The OPT7 are a premium brand and do fetch a higher price, thankfully got mine half price in the end if financial year sales
But yeah, consider LEDs, more light, brighter and whiter, with less power draw; it's a win on all fronts.
Hi thanks for the reply - I was looking at these previously but didn't think they would fit because of the large backend. Any tips on fitting? e.g. i notice that the fitment on the Handa has a sort of difuser inside that would have to be removed. Did this come out easy enough? Or did you have to take the whole unit out? Where did you place the ballast? Do the fan make any noticable noise?

Sorry for the late reply. No removal of diffuser, just remove the old bulbs install the new ones; the holding clip was a little finiky, to get past the fan part, it's doable, work from the short side of the clip first. The fan thing on the back still fits inside with the back caps, though best to drill out a few holes in them to allow air to be vented. The ballasts are tiny as, if you cut and splice the wires shorter they could probably even fit inside as well, though I just mounted mine in behind the console. The fans make a faint wirr, only notice if stationary with helmet off.
If you don't need high beam much, then jut adjust the high beam to point down and keep it on all the time. To oncoming traffic it will be brighter than our (almost invisible) low beam but not dazzling..
@tothezenith do you have a review on the OPT7? I'm considering these and would like to get a better feel for what I'm dealing with as far as performance and installation.
I bought them based on this thread about them. Sums it up pretty well. In comparison to the HID setup I had previously, I'll say the HIDs may have thrown light further, but the range wasn't overly useable... as in say a marker 60 meters; the HIDs would throw to 80m, but the light has already started to diminish by 45m. Whereas the LEDs throw to 60, but only start diminishing at 55m. Those are measured at all, just saying the light the LEDs throw is more useable in the range you need it. They seem to also suit the factory reflector better as the spread is wider also. Installation was a lot easier too, though you will need to drill some holes in the back covers to vent air.
