I test rode a used fz-07 - it had 3,500 miles on it, but haven't driven a CB500 yet.
Things I liked - the light weight (coming from a H-D Sportster), easy to manage at low speeds, but hang on when you crack the throttle .
Impressive torque for a small bike/engine. Very strong front brake compared to what I'm used to.
Very fun, but my first impression was that if I couldn't make it a bit more comfortable, it might not be the right fit for me.
Not so good for me - the seat is a little high, uncomfortable, and oddly shaped. The gauges are too low.
At high rpm's, the vibration was as bad, if not worse, than my solid mount Sportster.
Couldn't see any good way to get some wind protection on it.
Overall, it ticks a lot of boxes for things I'd be looking for in my next bike.
But I think one of the CB500's would too. Probably much less power from the CB, while delivering it in a more civilized manner.
There are lots of leftover 2016 FZ-07's for less than MSRP in my area, but our riding season is about 6 or 7 months max here.
Kawasaki announced a new 2017 Z650 last week. Not much info on it yet, but if they can get a reasonable price on it, I like what I've seen of it very much.
