Here's the front tire on my 2014 500F. As far as I know they're the factory tires. I'm seeing hairline cracks between the treads. What do you think? Time to replace them?
Personally, I think those look fine. I get superficial tearing on my front tires too.
Here are some pics of some Q3s that I just took off (just under 7k miles, two track days).
If you're even remotely worried about it, then just change it out.
Regarding being disappointed of the two year lifespan: you can't go by time. If you had a tire that was 5 years old on a bike you only rode once in a blue moon, you would still have to replace the tire. Look at the date code on the sidewall to give you an idea of how old the tire is. You can also check for dry rot or bluing from oils coming to the surface.
Not sure what you have mounted now, but you might want to consider getting sport touring tires made of harder compounds. You will get more miles out of them, but they won't be as soft as a performance tire.

That is likely the kind of tire that I will get once mine are toast. Being that I am using the bike as a commuter and not much more I would want the touring tires for the best lifespan and all weather traction. I am used to getting at least 18,000 thousand miles out of Michelin's Anakee's on my Kawasaki KLR.
i replaced the original DUNLOP D222's, when the wear indicators wore flush (8500 miles rear, 10000 miles front), with DUNLOP roadsmart 2's, which are the same tire. my understanding is that the D222 is just the OE version of the roadsmart 2; they look identical and have the exact same tread pattern.
How many miles is everyone getting on their stock tires? I think I'm at 7,400 miles and still on stock tires. Haven't looked closely yet (though I should..)
