2016 Air Duct Comparison

2016 model revised 2 air intake parts; Air Duct and Air Filter (both appear to be backward compatible since there is no change to the air box itself. 2016 Air Duct (17240-MJW-J00) is only a few dollars. Comparison photos; attached. Observations:
  • Curved opening = bigger surface area (compared to a straight cut).
  • Rounder lip = mini "velocity stack" like design? (increase velocity?).
  • Smoother internal surface.
  • Elbow appears slightly less restrictive.
  • downward angle.

Have you fitted the 2016 model to an older model? If so, noticed any difference?

Yes, fitted to 2014 model.
Had my first ride today, i think the induction tone has changed slightly for the better; slightly louder. Then again, i could be imagining it.
When blipping the throttle, could actually hear the induction tone before the exhaust (stock).
At full acceleration, i think it is about a third of the loudness of no Air Duct (i.e. removed; i tried that before).

I trust Honda engineers had improved it; the part itself does look and feel more refine (e.g. internal "polished" smooth).
For a few loose change (try US$4; or AU$9) what's not to like?

we have a whole thread about a custom solution to the intake mod here: http://www.cbr500riders.com/forum/en...ntake-mod.html
the reason they changed it for 2016+ models is in my opinion because of the different fairings shape and fit, so the airflow under the seat is a bit different, and they had to angle the intake a little bit down to get better airflow, of course the bigger surface area and "mini velocity stack" shaped intake helps too, i did a few tests with this (described in the thread above) and it can make quite a difference ...

I'm keen on trying it out. Do you have a part number just to make life a little easier?

I doubt if there's any noticeable difference in performance since the inner tube still the same diameter, but the resonance sound could be different.
