Hi guys, new to the forums here. Just picked up a new (used) 2016 CBR500R with 1,400 miles on it for $5k OTD with 6 months factory warranty still on it. The keep hearing about folks greasing/lubing their bikes, but as far as I can tell my owners manual says nothing about this. Where and how should I grease/lube my bike (besides the chain)?
Clean / degrease & lube chain. The only thing I know to be greased is the handlebar head bearing . That's after thousands of miles. I think it says when in the Maintaince schedule.
You can lightly grease the axles when you change the tires and get some grease behind the seals. The bearings are sealed so it's mainly to keep things from rusting. Not too much or you'll attract dirt. It should be all in the factory manual.
Kickstand pivot area and shifter fittings.
There may be a grease fitting on the swing arm pivot. My other bike has one. I'm not sure about the CB.
The older bikes had, I believe a grease nipple on the swing arm somewhere, not sure if that is still there?
Just be careful if you use a power washer, as these can blow grease from wheel bearings and chains etc.
