According to Motorcyclist magazine:

CBR500R: Corrected 1⁄4-mile: 13.63 sec. @ 93.80 mph

Ninja 300: Corrected 1⁄4-mile: 14.23 sec. @ 89.85 mph

I'm happy with my CB500XA!

Now we know that the CBR500R is .6 seconds faster than a Ninja 300.

Sorry My bad, above I posted that was RideApart and a 14.3 sec...that was actually Motorcyclist magazine and the 14.3 was for the N300...LOL. I got confused with RideApart as it was one of their reviewers who wrote the Motorcyclist magazine piece.

So yeah: 13.6 sec 1/4 mile.

I'm not sure how versed or experienced you are with racing and 1/4 times but .6 seconds is massively faster. Combined with the nearly 5 mph faster trap speed, it's not to be taken lightly how much stronger the 500 is over the 300. Or you could just be joking around.... either way, both bikes being similarly priced, the 500 offers more power and better gas mileage for the same rounded value.

I expected a closer outcome on their test.

Agreed - it's an excellent commuter bike that gets barely worse MPG than the 250.. I averaged 80ish on my 250R.. I got 60-65 average on my old 500R.
