Try heating it with a hair dryer then hold it in place with the blue masking tape while it cools.

I have a ProGrip one on mine. It was pretty cheap and it sticks just fine even though I painted the tank myself and it's not the same quality as the stock paint. For the sides I have Stomp Grips, which is what I've used on all my bikes. On my 1198 I did have a piece that started to peel off unfortunately, but no problem with any others. I've also heard great things about Tech Spec and the snake skin stuff.

I finally got the last two little corners to stay put with some silicone aquarium sealant/adhesive, so hopefully that'll hold. If it doesn't, I'll try that 3M stuff, I think.

hopefully that adhesive won't ruin the finish to your tank, even though it's covered by the pad.

The cheap ones I've bought have always lifted at the edges. I'd try the heating + tape method and maybe leave a heat lamp over it to keep it flexible.

It's made for aquariums, so I'm thinking if it's safe enough not to kill fish in a delicate, self-enclosed little ecosystem, it probably won't hurt my finish.
